Welcome to the website for US Coast Guard Signalman First Class Douglas Albert Munro, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery at Guadalcanal on September 27, 1942.

This site is a work in progress, developed and maintained by his family with content and contributions from those who have been inspired by his story. Over the coming months we plan to expand this website to share our family resources of photographs, video, stories and more. A book is being written by Gary Williams, the acclaimed author of Seal of Honor, telling the complete story of Douglas Munro – details of which we will soon have here. We have also aggregated a list of resources for you to learn about Douglas Munro and the events of that fateful day in 1942.

On November 13, 2013 the US Coast Guard dedicated their Headquarters in Washington DC the "Douglas A. Munro Coast Guard Building" by act of Congress.

We are also thrilled to unveil the Douglas Munro Challenge Coin, which is an American made collectable coin featuring the likeness of the US Coast Guard's only Medal of Honor recipient. 100% of the proceeds go to the Coast Guard Foundation, funding scholarships for Coast Guard children to pursue their dreams of a higher education.

Most of all, we would like to thank you for taking a moment to learn about Douglas Munro. We hope you are inspired by his story and that you find the potential that in every American exists an ordinary hero.
